The lesson

Not just any love. Your mama and baba at home. Think about your family. When you get home today, how do you show your parents that you love them? Maybe you give them a hug? Or say 'thank you'? There are so many ways we can show love. One way is caring. Caring means helping with chores. Like sweeping the floor or fetching water. When you help, it makes your parents happy. It shows you care about them. Another way is listening. That means paying attention when they talk to you. When your mama tells you something, listen carefully. It shows you respect her. It shows you love her. Always speak kindly. Use words like 'please' and 'thank you.' Never shout at your parents. Speaking kindly shows respect. It's a simple way to show love every day. Remember: love for our parents means caring, listening, and respecting. It's not just words — it's what we do. In our Kenyan homes, even small acts of love are very powerful. God loves it when we love our parents.

Today we have a very special topic. First, we learn something important from the Quran — the holy book for Muslims. It tells us something very beautiful about parents. Allah says: 'Be good to your parents.' This is from the Quran, chapter 17, verse 23. That means Allah wants us to be kind, gentle, and helpful to our mamas and babas. Can you say 'be good to your parents'? Three reasons why we should love our parents. Here is our first reason. Number one: Allah commands us to be good to them. When we are kind to our parents, we are also obeying Allah. That makes Allah happy! Number two: Our parents do so much for us! They feed us yummy food, they teach us new things, and they take care of us when we are sick. That's why we love them back. Number three: When we show love to our family, it makes everyone happy — and it pleases Allah too. Love makes our home a happy place. Let's always say 'thank you' to our parents and give them a big hug!

Boys and girls, look at the title up here — 'Ways to Help at Home.' Today, let's talk about small things you can do every single day to help your family, your mama and baba. This sentence says it all: 'Simple things you can do every day to help your family.' You don't need to be big or strong — just a little kindness and effort goes a long way. Number one — look at the bed emoji. Can you guess? Tidy your sleeping area. When you wake up, fold your blanket or mat without being told. That shows you care about your home. Next — the water drop. If it's safe and if the grown-ups say it's okay, you can fetch water or gather a few pieces of firewood. Just a little help makes a big difference for mama! At the baby icon! You can also help by looking after younger brothers and sisters while your parents rest or work. Play with them, keep them safe, and be a good big brother or big sister. Here's the most important one — always say 'thank you' for the food and care your family gives you. In Swahili, we say 'Asante sana.' A simple thank you fills your home with love. To finish, remember four things: tidy your bed, fetch water if you can, watch the little ones, and always say thank you. These small acts make you a helper at home every single day.

Class, today we are going to read a beautiful story. The title is right here — 'Ali's Surprise'. This is Ali. Can you see him? Let's find out what his surprise was. The story is about how Ali showed love to his parents — his mama and baba. This is what Ali did. First, he wakes up early in the morning. Then he makes chai for his parents. After that, he sweeps the compound. These are all ways to show love! When his parents see what Ali did, they are amazed. They give him a big hug. Ali feels very happy because he made his mama and baba smile. What a wonderful surprise!

Worked examples

Helping Mama Cook

Our very first example. I want you to meet a girl named Amina. Today's story is called 'Helping Mama Cook.' Amina is a young girl, just like you. In this story, she is going to show us how to help our families. At this picture. Amina asks her mama, 'Mama, what can I do to help?' Wow! That is such a nice way to ask. What does her mama say? Here — Amina helps by washing the vegetables and setting the table. Those are two very helpful jobs. Let's learn two big ideas from Amina. First: she asks politely. She speaks to her mama with respect. That is so important. Second: she takes action. She helps without complaining. She just gets to work. That shows a good heart. Here is the big lesson from Amina: even a small act, like washing vegetables, can show your family how much you love and respect them. Isn't that wonderful?

Helping Baba Fetch Water

Our next example is about a boy named Juma and his baba. Every evening, Juma helps his baba carry water from the borehole. He does not complain. Instead, he sings a happy song while walking. See, his baba smiles and thanks him. This is love in action. Love means helping without complaining.

Greeting with Respect

Our third example. This time we meet Fatima, a girl who really knows how to show love and honour to her parents every morning. Fatima starts her day with a beautiful greeting. At what she says: 'Assalamu Alaykum, Baba. Assalamu Alaykum, Mama.' That means 'Peace be upon you, Father. Peace be upon you, Mother.' Isn't that a wonderful way to begin the morning? Fatima doesn't stop with just words. She also kisses her parents' hands and asks them, 'How did you sleep?' This shows she cares about how they are feeling. See how she greets them with a warm smile? That smile is like a gift — it shows love and honour. You don't need money or special things to show respect. A smile and kind words are enough. Here is the key lesson from Fatima: a respectful greeting with a smile shows love and honour. Every morning, you can be like Fatima — greet your parents warmly, ask how they are, and watch how your whole day becomes brighter.
