When someone is needy, they lack basic things like food, water, clothes, or shelter. In Kenya, we see needy people everywhere. For instance, street children in Nairobi who have no home, elderly people without family, and families suffering from drought. God asks us to help these people. Jesus said that when we help them, it's like we are helping him. Helping the needy is a very important thing for us to do. I want you to think: what can you do to help? Maybe you can share your lunch with a classmate who has none, or be kind to a street child, or ask your family to donate clothes. Let's talk about it.
Boys and girls, today we learn a very important lesson from the Bible. Jesus tells us that when we help others, we are actually helping him. This is the key idea: Serve Jesus by Helping Others. This comes from Matthew chapter 25, verses 35 to 40. Let me read what Jesus said. Jesus said: 'I was hungry, and you gave me food. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me. I needed clothes, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.' That is from Matthew 25:35-36. At these points. Whatever you do for the needy, you do for Jesus. The needy are people who are poor, sick, lonely, or in prison. Think about someone in your community – maybe a street child who has no food, or an elderly neighbor who is alone. When you share your chapati or give a kind word, that is like helping Jesus himself. Let's think about this: How can we serve Jesus by helping others in our daily lives?
Class, it's your turn! We have learned a lot about helping others. Today, I want you to put that learning into action. Think of someone in your community who needs help. It could be a grandparent, a sick neighbor, or even a street child you see on your way to school. Anyone who could use a little kindness. Plan just one simple thing. Maybe share a snack, pay a short visit, or help with a chore like fetching water or sweeping. One small act can make a big difference. Next week we will share what we did.
Let's quickly go over our key takeaways so we don't forget them. First: helping someone in need is like helping Jesus himself. The Bible says in Matthew 25:40, 'Whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' So when you share your chapati with a friend who has none, or help a street child, Jesus sees it and is very happy. Second: even small acts of kindness matter. You don't have to do big things. A smile, a kind word, sharing your pencil – these small things make a big difference in God's eyes. Remember, a little kindness goes a long way. Close your eyes and bow your heads. Lord, open our eyes to see the needy around us – the matatu conductor who needs a smile, the classmate who has no food. Give us brave hearts to help them, just as Jesus helps us. In Jesus' name, amen.
